Dark Poetry--Ravages of War
About
I don't usually write dark poetry, however, I was challenged by a friend to write a dark poem about a war based in ancient times and on the battlefield. I had to complete the poem within 20 mins. This was truly a challenge for me. Thank-you for taking the time to read this!!
Ravages of War
The fields lay wet with the bloody pride
several thousand beaten then died.
Slaughtered by those that were once friends
beaten down solemnly to no ends.
Forseen by those that parted with the treachery that unfolds
never such a time that betrayal holds.
Another day, another hour,
clinging to the spiteful power.
Even those that were once strong
their days now limited and not too long.
The seas have been parted, the omens told
all is forgotten because none is too bold.
To fight the beast that lay within
would betray those who fell in sin.
The heavens roar with a thunderous bout,
they march on regardless of doubt.
Slashing with their heathen ways
never again to see the light of day.
